Helping the Needy

“Whatsoever you did to the least of my brothers and sisters, that you did unto me.”
Matthew 25, 40

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is inspired by Gospel values and leads men and women to join together to grow spiritually by offering service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederick Ozanam and its patron, St. Vincent de Paul.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul offers tangible assistance to those in need on a persontoperson basis. It is this personalized involvement that makes the work of the Society unique. An essential precept of the Society’s work is to provide help while conscientiously maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those we serve.

SVDP offers help to clients in need, regardless of religious affiliation, who are living within parts of Mentor, Mentor on the Lake and Willoughby. Areas of assistance include providing emergency food from our pantry, providing furniture, assisting with utility bills and rent to those who qualify, and providing information about government and agency services. Activities throughout the year include providing holiday baskets, Angel Tree, school supply collection and Blanket Sunday. We are grateful for the donations we receive from the Poor and Needy envelopes.

Membership is made up of volunteers, who meet the qualifications of the nation Society of the SVDP.

The SJV/SVDP Food Pantry is always appreciative of items donated by parishioners to stock our shelves.
During the month of August, we are greatly in need of canned corn, peas and mixed vegetables. Our shelves are also in need of children’s cereal and various pastas. Thanks so much!
