IDA RELIEF Collection – Sept 25 & 26

The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and dioceses across the country once again have been asked by leadership of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to have a voluntary special collection on behalf of people impacted by a hurricane. We are being asked to help the people who have been impacted by Hurricane Ida which made landfall in the Gulf Coast and moved inland as a tropical storm, causing damage across several states. As a result, lives have been lost and many Church properties, along with homes and businesses, have been severely damaged or destroyed. Please keep the people who have been hurt in your prayers.

If you would like to make a financial donation to assist them, place your donation in an envelope marked “IDA RELIEF” next weekend, September 25 & 26, and place it in the collection basket along with your donation to the parish. If you are writing a check, make the check payable to Saint John Vianney Parish and mark on the memo, Ida Relief. Thanks again for your generosity.

Adult Confirmation Preparation Series begins Oct 24th

We will hold an Adult Confirmation Preparation series in October and November. It will be a series of five sessions for adults who were baptized Catholic as infants and made first Holy Communion as children but did not receive the sacrament of Confirmation when they were teenagers. Catholics who wish to be a godparent for Baptism or a sponsor for Confirmation must be confirmed and be registered members of a parish. This series is a good chance for an adult to be confirmed and therefore qualify to serve as a godparent or sponsor for a family member when asked. If you were one of those teens who missed out on Confirmation and would now like to be Confirmed, Click Here to Register for Adult Confirmation Classes now. Classes will take place on five consecutive Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 2:30, beginning on October 24, in the Large Conference Room of the Parish Office Center. . Confirmation is the third sacrament of the three sacraments of initiation and Catholics should receive the sacrament to be a fully-initiated member of the Church.

Parishioners from other parishes in the Lake-Geauga District are welcome to participate in the sessions. Confirmation ceremony would be celebrated in your home parish as a general rule. Saint John Vianney Parish is located at 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor, Ohio.

Safety Recommendations from Bishop Malesic on the COVID-19 pandemic

With the resurgence of the COVID-19 and it’s variants we are reminded of what we can do to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 during this pandemic. The bottom-line is that when you are indoors and in close proximity to people, other than your family, you are strongly encouraged to wear a face mask for the time-being—until the current level of increased coronavirus cases is over. Use charity and patience with those who do not wish to comply with this request. Let us continue to pray for one another and support one another until the long-awaited day arrives when we can joyfully proclaim that we survived and are actually better people for having gone through these trying days.
